About Pamela

I have been teaching yoga for 23 years here in beautiful  Barbados. I am honoured to be the founder of and principle teacher at Sunshine Kula Yoga Studio (SKY).  I am a Certified Anusara Yoga teacher and Advanced teacher of Therapeutic Yoga. I teach enthusiastically as I am passionate about this enlightening practice that brings transformation and truly wish to share it to help enhance people’s lives and in turn community and our planet.

I hope that every student has an experience that imparts a passion and desire to know their worth and say a big “Yes to life”. Be the best YOU in health and happiness. Stay open to all that comes, and learn to release or to embrace to grow and shine.

My journey I first experienced yoga as a child in my island home with my mother who later taught yoga.

Working life began as a Physical Education and Educational Dance school teacher in the UK. I trained in Reflexology and Thai Yoga massage due to a lifelong interest in health, wellness and holistic modalities.

My initial yoga teacher training was with Integrative Yoga Therapy which I still proudly teach today. I experienced other schools of yoga but when I landed in the world of Anusara Yoga knew this was special. I began to seriously study the method, and in 2007 I qualified as an Anusara® inspired teacher.

I opened ‘Sunshine Kula Yoga Studio’ in 2012 which I continue to own and operate today. This blossomed through continued study, development and dedication. I am truly blessed to be able to share my knowledge and teaching in Barbados and overseas. In 2018 I completed the path to higher certification and I am thrilled to call myself a Certified™ Anusara® Yoga Teacher. This is one of the top certifications in the yoga world, well beyond 500hr TT.

My teaching style is creative and uplifting with a focus on good alignment and heightening awareness to create openings in body mind and heart. Aligning the body well provides safety and stability allowing energetic flow and clearing the way for insight. This amplifies the possibility for awakening and simply feeling good! I balance precision, action and wise sequencing with wisdom, softness and freedom of movement to enjoy the dance of life. Through the former, asana (postures) are enhanced, more joy and peace is experienced and the science and art of expressing from inside out creates connection to delight that is loved by so many. I love to give everyone a complete experience and an understanding of what we are doing and why.

My extensive yoga experience and my Physical Education teaching background gives me the technical ability to support the physicality of rigorous sport as well as enhancing the mental focus to sustain and succeed, whilst maintaining mobility, avoiding injury and aiding recovery.

Yoga for golf, tennis, runners, footballers, netballers and purely for your fitness is an aspect of teaching I love. That said, a key part of my teaching is yoga for back care and managing anxiety and depression as well as teaching the more subtle and gentle.

I have more recently enjoyed learning and sharing the magical frequencies of GONG that have the power to to carry one into a deep relaxing and rejuvenating state. The experience is meditative and has been shared for thousands of years as a healing tool. The sound waves created resonate around and through you to bring a harmony that has understandably lifted the popularity of the sound bath and vibrational energy.

I am devoted to inner peace and personal development and committed to sharing a practice that is inclusive, accessible and for every level of oneself. Breath work is an integral part of our practice.

Health is wholeness

My students say that I am filled with an intention of keeping them safe and happy while helping each one journey to know themselves more fully through my inspiration to take them a little further on and off the mat. They love the uniqueness of my continued guidance into higher realms and life skills throughout the class plus snippets of interesting information, philosophy and sometimes laugher and quiet pauses. Students express how much they enjoy that classes are never the same and are interesting, fun and educational. They note my strong observational skills to help them make adjustments as well as being aware of just what they need.

I will humbly let them speak for themselves click here!
